Soybean and Soybean Pulp
Soybean is a vegetative food having many uses with its structure containing no cholesterol and saturated fat. It also contains high quality proteins. Products provided by processing soybeans such as soybean oil, soy lecithin, soy sauce, soy flour, soy meat, soy minced meat and soy milk are used in the production process of many products in our food industry. As many studies have proven that soybean pulp is useful, it is both a high quality animal feed itself and an animal feed ingredient. Soybean pulp is consumed in feeding cattles and ovins and especially in feeding winged animals as well as being used to improve efficiency in this field.
Sunflower Seed and Sunflower Pulp
Sunflower is mainly produced to obtain oil from its seeds. This liquid oil with low acid and yellowish colour is used both in cooking and in margarine, soap and oil paint production. After producing oil from sunflower grains, the leftover pulp is used as animal feed. One thousand sunflower seeds weigh around 70 to 200 grams. Seeds of fatty sunflowers are smaller whereas seeds of appetizer ones are bigger. Seeds with small grains contain more fat. However seeds with bigger grains contain low fat. Sunflower is one of the leading plants providing raw materials to the vegetable oil industry. Sunflower oil is high quality and tasty. On the other hand sunflower pulp is a very nutritious animal feed as it contains 20% protein and from 1% to 7% fat. It is a rich food especially for cattles and dairy cows.
Canola Seed and Canola Pulp
Canola contains high amount of oil in its seeds. Depending on the production conditions and features of different types it contains between 40% and 50% oil inside. Canola pulp contains 40% protein which is similar to the soybean with this feature. Canola pulp is produced by extracting oil from the seeds and fruits with oil solvents harmless to human beings and animals. After taking out the oil from canola seeds, the leftover pulp contains between 38% and 40% protein. This protein-rich pulp is mixed with soybean pulp and used as animal feed.
Corn oil is oil extracted from the germ of corn. Its main use is in cooking and it helps preventing arteriosclerosis. On the other hand corn germs are used in animal feed industry as they are rich nutritions. Also corn flour is produced from corn germs.
Wheat is used in the food industry, mostly in pastries. Wheat flour is mostly used in bread baking. On the other hand farina produced from durum wheat flour is generally used in pasta making. Wheat types having less nutritional value and leftovers from the mills, namely the cracked wheat, are consumed as animal feed.
